The joys of remodeling and homeownership...
Thursday 1/12, Ran lots of errands at work so I didn’t spend much time in the office, it was a nice change of pace. On the way home from work I managed to psych myself up and decided to do some painting on the stairs. When I got home I changed into my painting clothes and talked to Susan while I detached the railing from the wall. This is the portion of the stairwell I have been avoiding doing for quite a while. While I was doing that Zeph called so I talked to him for quite a while. I had to call Susan to come out and help me at one point cause the railing wasn’t coming off in pieces like I hoped it would, so she had to hold it while I unscrewed all of the brackets all the way down the stairs. I got quite a bit of painting done but since it was really dark I’m expecting to have to do some major touchups when I see it in the light. I made some of the chicken Peggy and Jim gave me and it was ok, but I think needs to be cooked at a higher temperature, reminder for next time. Then it was time to clean the kitchen: dusty silverware, nasty drawers and lots of unloading and reloading of the dishwasher. I accomplished quite a bit for being as exhausted as I was from my day. Talked to Alishia while I did it and then it was time to relax so I sat in my room and watched tv and played on my computer. Talked briefly to B before OC came on, took a shower and snuggled on into my comfy bed. Marissa is back at Harbour, yay! I watched the last episode of Season 3 of SaTC before going to sleep.
Wednesday 1/11, I had to get up early like I was going to work this morning even though I wasn’t going to because the countertop guys were coming between 8:00 and 11:00. They showed up around 9:15 and started plugging away. Everything went fine except that the back corner piece had the decorative lip on the side against the stove so it was too big to fit in the spot. So they have to take it back and fix it, so after all of this hoopla, it’s still not done. AUGH. Oh well, at least everything else went fine. They even tested the sink to make sure it fits (it does) and washed the counters down for me. They look really good so I’m very excited. Got to work around 1:00 so missed half of the day. When I got home I waited around for about an hour until B got there. We started dealing with the plumbers putty and the sink and were soon snapping at each other and blaming the other for things not going right. We had to saw out part of the sink basin and put the sink in twice before we got it to fit properly. But of course, after we got everything in and the water hooked back up and turned on, there was no water pressure coming out of the faucet. B ended up dismantling the entire faucet to try and clear whatever was blocking the flow of water. We didn’t figure it out but did manage to get more water to come out, even if it’s not very forcefully. After cleaning up all of the putty and the build up of dishes that had accumulated we sat down and watched some tv. Talked to Dad a few times about everything, then we headed upstairs to shower and hit the sack.
Tuesday 1/10, B came over after work and we watched tv in the living room and just hung out. I made curry for dinner with basmati rice and then we ripped the sink out of the kitchen. It took much longer than I had hoped because we had to do some drilling of wood and more construction stuff after pulling everything out. Oh well, it got done and it should be fairly easy to put back together.
Monday 1/9, Went to the store after work and got some food then went home and relaxed. Talked to Kassie and Zeph on the phone. Zeph and I had a long conversation and it was really good, we mostly talked about Kassie so that was fun. Then I called B and went to bed. After watching a few episodes of SaTC of course.
