The conclusion of birthday adventures
Monday 8/7, I got up around 8:30, went on my short walk, showered, got ready, went to get my oil changed then called Mom because I was in her neighborhood. She gave me a tour of her office and we chatted for a while until it was time for her to take an early lunch. We went to Tutta Bella to have pizza for lunch and it was all very good then we went back to the office and I was on my way to the tile place in Kirkland to place my order. I took care of that and will pick it up on Friday or Monday. Then I went to the park again to lay out and read some more. I stayed there for a little over an hour then headed back home where I put on 8 Women for a nice afternoon foreign film screening. Later that evening Zach called and I talked to him for a good hour and a half then Susan and I watched Cash in the Attic and hung in our rooms. I went to bed around 11:30 after reading a magazine and some of my book.
Sunday 8/6, Unfortunately I woke up at 9, which means I only got, at best 4.5 hours of sleep. I knew this would not be enough for me to make it through the day. I decided to eat some breakfast and put a movie on because I knew that combination would knock me right back into sleep mode. And boy did it ever. I woke up just before 1:00. 1:00! I NEVER sleep that late. After glancing at the clock I jumped out of bed and into the shower. Even if I was only going to the park to lay in the sun, I was determined to not be staying in bed all day. I had a little bit of my leftover omelet, packed my “sunning” bag and set off for the Bellevue Downtown Park. By the time I got to the park it was 2:00 and I had decided that I would call Andy around 3:00 so I had an hour to read, make other phone calls and soak up the sun. The Blue Angels kept flying overhead so at least I got to see a bit of the show. I called Aubs first and left a message, then I called Mom and talked with her about my birthday and Andy for a little bit, then Dad for just a second because they were going to take Aubrie to cheer. I read until a little after 3:00 (I decided I didn’t want to call right at 3:00, but instead at 3:12 as that would look less planned than 3:00 right on the button). I started working out what I was going to say if it went to voicemail (literally practicing, out loud, at the park) and what I would say if he picked up. I was hoping for the former. Well guess what, it was the later. He picked up and I didn’t even recognize his voice, so I was all “Um, Andy?” and he was like (low rumbly voice) “Yeah?” Oh, hey! This is Karrah, blah blah blah. I basically told him that Susan and I had left a little earlier the previous evening and hoped that I hadn’t missed him (there’s a little truth in that as we had left 15 minutes before closing time) and also that it was good seeing him. He said Naw, he didn’t even get out of work until 4:15 and was back on his way to work at the moment (Almost 3:30 at this point. Shut up, I had a lot of rehearsing to do). I told him I was laying out in the sun at the park and just thought I would say hi. I kept kind of trying to end it so that it wouldn’t feel strained but he kind of kept the conversation going which I’ll take as a good sign. He said that they’ve been crazy busy and as I could see last night he’d had his hands full. Then he said that they’d promoted him to some semi-managerial position because of his “silver tongue” but I had to ask him to repeat what he said because he’s hard to understand on the phone (that deep phone voice and all) and when he said it again, I thought, well that sounds promising - maybe it has to do with his tongue ring. He set me straight though, and he said it means that he’s good at talking people into leaving rather than having to physically make them leave. Neighbours was a good place to learn how to do that he said, because you have to deal with every kind of person there. It was a decent conversation and at the end I told him that if he ever wants to hang out to give me a call, and he said “I’d like that” which I responded to with “Well, I’d like that too” then he said again, "I’d really like that" and wished me another belated happy birthday and I told him to have fun at work and we hung up. I then packed up my bag because I’d had enough sun and was ready to watch a movie at home and relax. I told Susan about my phone call when I got home and then watched Closer and practically fell asleep again. Shame on me. I ate some leftover chicken, talked to Aubrie about Andy forever and some other plans we’ve got in the works and pretty much hung out in my room alone after Susan left.
Saturday 8/5, My Birthday. Susan and I woke up early to go get breakfast and to go to the tile place. We went to the Original Pancake House in Kirkland which was very good as always (I got an enormous veggie omelet) then headed over to the tile place where the guy let me take home the tile board to make sure it was the color and style I wanted. Next we went over to Costco home where I showed Susan the couch I want and she tried to convince me to buy it right then, but I needed to figure out how much the tile was going to cost me first. We went home where I showered and relaxed until Dale the tile guy came at 2:00. He was a little quirky but he’s been doing this a long time so I’m not worried. He quoted $450 for the work and an extra $200 to seal it, on top of that my tile cost me $380, so it looks like I won’t be buying that couch this month. Oh well, at least my kitchen will almost be done then. It’s only taken TWO YEARS! After he left I went over to Mom’s to help prep for my b-day party where I mostly chopped and diced tomatoes, onions and garlic. Willie called me from W. Seattle so I told him to come over and I got a very nice hug from him when he got there and we sat and chatted while I continued cutting. He called me OCD (and asked me if I wanted a ruler when I was cutting bread) but I told him I wasn’t as OCD as Kay-See is. He helped peel garlic and we talked about all sorts of things while keeping me company. After we were done prepping we went into the living room and continued talking until Grandma and Grandpa got there then Willie said he had to go so I walked him out to his car and got a second very nice hug from him. I’m telling you, those arms, mmmm. Ha, so anyway then Susan showed up, then Kay-See and lastly Jason. We had dinner and it was very good, though I wasn’t as thrilled with the pear cake, but that didn’t stop me from eating my whole piece. We sat around and talked and we heard this plane flying around outside forever so we looked and it had fireworks shooting off of the wings, which was really cool. Dad got the binoculars and we each took a turn to look. After that all of these police boats had their lights going and we wondered what was going on, then an awesome fireworks show started. Susan joked that she set it up especially for my birthday. It went on for quite a while and finally around 10:30 or something we all decided to call it a night. Us girls were going to go out dancing but Kay-See had to work early in the morning so it was just Susan and me. We went back to the house and got ready quickly and headed down to Pioneer Square to go see Andy. I was so nervous and I didn’t really know why, but my stomach had crazy butterflies. We got a spot really close and began our long wait in line. The bouncers kept letting in these bachelorette parties instead of the people who were actually waiting in line. Andy came and took his turn working the exit door so I took that opportunity to go up and talk to him and get a hug. I told him it was my birthday and he wished me a happy birthday a couple of times, then said real hot-like “You’re looking good as always” so I told him he was sweet as always. I told him we’d been waiting in line forever and he asked if we were still going to go in or if we were just going to head up to Neighbours. Which now makes me think that maybe he totally knows that I just go there to see him and at that point because I’d seen and talked to him, he assumed I would just be on my way. Hmm, I'm guessing yes…Anyway, I told him he should go up to Neighbours after he got off work but he told me the problem is that he doesn’t get off until 3:00 or 3:30 but I told him he should come up anyway. So, back in line there was a group of guys (a stag party or something) in front of us and one of the guys was cute and asked us if there was an ATM inside but we didn’t know, then he asked if we wanted some gum. Susan called him an idiot (not to his face) but I thought he was cute. Finally that large group of guys got to go in and right as the bouncer was going to put the rope in front of us the guy turned around and was like, “Oh they’re with us too” so he moved the rope, I told the bouncer it was my birthday then Susan said something like “We have the same birthday” or “Remember me?” or something and he was all “Oh I remember you!” it was funny! We go in and totally didn’t get stamped because we cruised right by and headed straight to the bathroom (saw Andy on the way and he told me good luck). Then we went back to watch people fall off the bull, my fav thing to do there (well besides the obvious). There were some good ones. Finally we decided to go and that I needed to flag down Andy, so he comes by but I couldn’t do it, so I told Susan the next time he did his rounds. He comes back and I told him we were going to take off but that he should def come up to Neighbours and that if he was for sure going to go I’d wait around so he said that he probably would and then he goes “Well give me a call, you’ve got my number right?” I said “No I don’t have your number, I gave you mine!” so he goes “Don’t go anywhere, I’ll be right back”. So he comes back and walks right by me, so I turn and look at him over my shoulder, because he’s behind me, with a slight scowl on my face and he kind of falls over and puts his hand over his face and is like “Ack, I forgot, I’ll be right back” so I laugh and wonder if he’s going to give me a fake number and had hoped I had gone away by the time he returned. No chance Andy. So we’re still waiting and then I see him and two other bouncers pushing this guy through the club and out the door, so obviously he didn’t give me his number on that round either. Finally he comes back and kind of sneaks up on me and reaches around and hands me a matchbook and gets real close to my ear and says “It’s written on the inside cover, I know it’s kind of cheesy, in a matchbook...” and smiles then says “So call me”, I say ok then basically follow him out because he’s taking his turn at the door, one more time I tell him I hope to see him up on the hill and he wishes me a happy birthday again and we’re off. We sat in the car for a minute while I tried to decode Andy’s chicken scratch handwriting while I giggled with excitement. We got up to Capitol Hill and I parallel parked in our new fav place and headed in. Got a hug from the bouncer and Travers tried to steal my credit card, and we were in. We danced FOREVER and some gay guy stuck his hand down Susan’s shirt and asked if we were lovers and she replied with “Of course!” We proceeded to get hit on by every Latino man in the joint which thoroughly irritated Susan but didn’t bother me too much because it’s just what I expect. We didn’t see any of our regulars but danced forever and had fun anyway. We took a break to walk to my car to get Andy's number in case I needed to call him and I asked the grope-y bouncer how to come back in so he told me we could come in by him, so when we went back in we got the special treatment and the new cute bouncer checked my wrist when we went by. We continued dancing for what felt like forever. By 3:45 we decided to leave because I doubted that Andy would be showing up, but not before we had a chance to dance to a Scissor Sisters remix. I don’t even really remember leaving the club but on the way to the car Susan devised a plan to call Andy, not at that time, but the next day. I didn’t get to bed until 4:30.
Friday 8/4, Andre and I went over to Mom’s to watch the Blue Angels then went back to the office and I was out of there by 3:30. I didn’t go on my walk and felt guilty for it, but sometimes that happens. When Susan got home I asked her if she wanted to go to the mall and to the Warehouse so around 7:30 we took off in order to redeem our “free panty” at Victoria’s Secret and I also got a new bra because I had a $10 off coupon. We then headed over to Warehouse to go see Mike and Scott, but only Mike still works there so we chatted with him for quite a while and I picked out 4 new cds (got one for free, rad!) and three new movies. We headed out at 10:00 and went home where we both went to bed.
