Friday 7/20, I woke up and alerted the media about Kassie’s condition and Mom was like “Why didn’t you come in and get me?!” which I thought was adorable. I had asked her if she wanted me to get her anything and she said no, except for some water, so I figured it was under control. I was on my own for breakfast and the girls all left in my car and Dad was gone with all the boys returning the tiller thing. Kassie and I just hung out for most the day I think, not doing much. The boys were back and Dad and Uncle Brad were working on the sprinkler system so Kassie and I put on Holiday and toward the end Dad yelled up to come out quickly to see who was there and it turned out to be Mark, who we haven’t seen for like 5 years. Crazy! He looked great, with a very chiseled face…lookin good Mark! Anyway, we chatted for a minute and he introduced us to his friends then they left and we finished our movie. Around 3:30 we decided to drive to the bridge and walk from there to get ice cream. When we told Papa what we were doing he said to watch out for boys and that if he had seen two gals like us after getting out of the Navy he would have "taken you [us] around the block." I called Kay-See to see where she was and we stopped into the hardware store for a part for Dad then over to ice cream and I got chocolate (boring!) and Kassie got maple nut. We people watched for a long time and some septic pumping truck driver asked how we were doing. I told Kassie I wanted to ask him for a ride in his truck and she just rolled her eyes. Heh. It was cold so after I polished off both my and Kassie’s ice cream we took off to walk back to the car. We tried to figure out how to get up to the big house on the ridge and may have found the road but there was a no trespassing sign so we didn’t investigate further. Back at home we put another movie in, Little Miss Sunshine, and Kay-see arrived close to the end. I did introductions then we sat down to eat a ton of Auntie’s pico de gallo. We then got into the hammock so she could fill me in on the various stories she’s been working on all week. Everything was fine until Dad wanted to tighten the straps. We got back in and one of the cords totally broke and I landed on my tailbone right on the huge fucking tree root. Then Papa came and took pictures as we laid there on the ground laughing. It hurt so bad all I could think was “Must. Roll. Onto. Stomach. Now.” K just laughed and laughed, she wasn’t hurt, but it was hard for me to even move. Auntie Heidi was like “I can’t wait to see that tramp stamp tomorrow!” and I told them it felt like someone had whacked me across the ass with a 2x4. Then my neck started hurting again so I think both K and I had slight whiplash. Ouch. Finally it was dinner time so we had roast chicken, ribs, baked potatoes, corn bread, watermelon and corn on the cob. We all over ate of course, then Kassie and Mom dished up more angel food cake with fresh peaches and strawberries. Hailey and Cali had run out of gas at the Plain Grocery and had procured help from some volunteer fire fighter but it still didn’t sit well with Kassie and Uncle Brad so they took off to help and came back about 10 minutes later with Hailey in tow. K and I went up to go to bed and she fell asleep before I was even ready for bed. I was sleeping soon after.
Thursday 7/19, Aubrie was up and at em early, so I got up to spend the last hour or so with her because I was really going to miss her and wanted her to know that. Mom, Auntie Heidi and Aubrie took off at 9 and I ate some cereal then tried to get Kassie up, but instead fell back asleep until about 11:30. I riled Kassie and we headed into Leavenworth to straighten out the tabs for the truck and Bonneville and to grab a little lunch. We ate at Pavz where I got the goat cheese and roasted vegetable crepe and Kassie got the strawberry, duh. We went to the health food store after that and waited for the DMV to reopen, got the tabs from the probably drunk lady, then headed to Cashmere for a baguette upon recommendation from the lady at the health food store. The place is called Anjou and they make superb black bottom cupcakes and other fine baked goods. On our way back we stopped at one of the fruit stands where we sampled and gawked at all the stuff then headed home. I think we probably fell asleep again then went out to the deck to socialize with Grandma and Papa then helped pick rocks out of the trenches. Finally Mom and AH returned and we started on dinner which included of delicious and enormous hot dogs Kassie bought from Whole Foods. Jan and Kelly got there so it was beginning to resemble the full house we’re used to. We all stayed up late again around the campfire talking and laughing and eventually turning in to bed late after magazine perusing. Kassie woke up at 3:30 puking for about a half hour. Couldn’t figure out why.
Wednesday 7/18, Aubrie and I got up right around 7 and were ready to go a little after 8 but Kassie refused to get up which we both knew meant that she wouldn’t be getting to Plain until well after the afternoon started. Whatever, you can’t hurry Kassie, as everyone has learned. Aubs and I stopped at Starbucks to get her a little breakfast and when we got back in the car A alerted me that two texts had come in from N and read them aloud to me. We both rolled our eyes and I had no desire to respond. We made it over fairly quickly, despite the construction on the pass and following that slow ass semi going 20 mph. Boo! When we got there we saw Dad leaving and told us he would be back soon so we went in the motor home and started raiding the candy box. The weather kind of sucked but we decided to take a little walk and as we were out on the county road we saw Dad coming and hitched a ride back with him (like 50 feet) and Aubrie almost said “What the fuck happened?” because of the Bonneville, so we decided to use the word “fun” in place of fuck so we were like “Where the fun is Kassie?” or “What’s up with this funning weather?” wow, we’re hilarious. The three of us went into the motor home and Dad laid on the floor and we told him all about our week as he fell asleep. We snickered over the top of him. He finally got back up and to work and asked us if we would help out by cutting the shrubs and stuff down by the river so we set out, Aubs with a shovel and I with a giant pair of shears, for the river. We did quite a bit of damage then headed back up as Dad rode his mower around then weed whacked. We got our suits on as the sun was finally coming out to work on our tans and catch up on our reading. Mom came home and we helped her unload her car because she’s still sore from her multiple surgeries. Kassie finally showed up around 3 or something and constructed a delicious cheese plate, then put her suit on and we all played around the pool, laid out and laughed when Dad rode up on the mower and I put his Teva-style sandals on. Dinner was started complete with bacon covered burgers, Auntie’s famous salad and corn on the cob. We celebrated my birthday so I opened presents and we had angel food with tons of strawberries and whip cream. Aubrie showed me what gremlin sex looks like, and I got a bit of it on video which is hilarious. We stayed up super late by the gi-normous fire looking at the stars and laughing about red heads with Uncle Brad. Fan-TAStic. We finally turned in after midnight or something. I don’t even remember but I think Aubrie fell asleep first because she had to get up early the next morning.
Tuesday 7/17, I went home straight away and started on the first of two angel food cakes and to start packing. N and I had plans to make out and I thought that if he was feeling up for it (he had a sore throat) I would just bring all my shit and leave from his house for Plain the next morning. I called him and left a message but wasn’t hearing back from him and Kassie and Aubs were downtown asking if I wanted to go to dinner so finally after I finished both cakes and the principle packing I called them and said I was coming to meet up because I hadn’t heard from N and I didn’t want to wait around all night for his ass to call me. I went to Palace Kitchen and put our name in and requested Kassie’s favorite waiter and luckily we were seated in his section. Dave P I believe. K and A showed up and we talked and ordered food based on Dave’s recommendation and all were pleased. We took a bunch of pictures and laughed hysterically until about 10:30 then Kassie was going to head to Lo-Fi so Aubrie and I headed home where I showed her this hilarious message on myspace that we couldn’t make it through without laughing so hard we couldn’t talk or even breathe…then Kassie came home and we made her read it and it started all over again. Especially the rabbit pelt part. Dear god. I uploaded a bunch of pictures onto flickr and eventually we all went to bed around 2:00 and had agreed to get up early to make it East within the morning. No response from N. Boo!
