Saturday 5/17, I woke up at 7:55 and was glad I had finally slept in. I checked emails and stuff and ate a little breakfast until 8:30 then woke Auntie up so we could go to the Hanalei Farmer’s Market and for a morning swim and walk on the beach. I called Eric while waiting outside and he was up visiting Chrystol and Schuyler for the day so we chatted for a few minutes but then I had to go because Auntie had Web on the phone so I talked with him for a minute and told him to call me when he was done and had a chance. We got into Hanalei after a hilarious story about Auntie and the trunk release and driving on the west side. We arrived at 9 and I was introduced to a lot of Auntie’s friends and we picked up some lychee and I got some lilikoi chevre and granola. We headed back to the car and Kay-See called to tell me she was in her bikini with Ky up on her roof. I told her I was in mine too and on my way to the beach. It was cute she called. We got to the beach and sat on a bench under a tree eating lychees and watching hot shirtless lifeguards. I took some pictures for K. We walked down the beach and saw Darcy then continued on our way back. We grabbed our stuff and headed home and she made fun of guys on scooters and said they were an x. I told her I wasn’t as picky but do prefer motorcycles. Erics that ride motorcycles to be exact. I had some of my new chevre and sunflower bread then read for a while until Auntie Lauryn left. I showered and told Grandma I was going down to Ching Young to get some postcards but that I would be back quickly. I got what I needed then went down to another little shop and got a magnet and little shell thing and headed back and met Aram on the way in. I sat with Grandma while she ate her lunch and I filled out some postcards and snacked on chips and she told me why she doesn’t want to hang out with him. After I got her back in bed I headed back down into Hanalei and stopped to get two more postcards but accidentally hit the panic button on the damn rental car key and didn’t know how to turn it off so I’m frantically hitting the lock and unlock buttons but it’s not working then the car next to mine starts going off and this girl looks over and laughs and I was mortified but finally hit the panic button again and that turned it off. I quickly got my shit and hit the beach. I laid out for a little bit then got in the water but not too far because the surf was still way up so I continued to watch the surfers from my towel and decided I never wanted to leave. Zeph called and we talked for a long time and that was really fun and he made fun of me for making out with so many guys and even did an impression of me. I thumbed through Bust then Kalei called and said he was still sick and couldn’t go to Kilauea Days so I told him to get better. Auntie called to say she was leaving but hitting some shops on the way back and that we could walk the beach. I called Susan and we talked for a long time and I told her about Eric and the rest of the trip. I decided to pack up since I’d been down there for 2 hours and was getting hungry. I dropped my postcards at the post office and arrived a little before Auntie. She got some papaya salsa that I pilfered and started on the rice. I hopped in the shower to rinse the rest of the sand off then we sat down for dinner. We decided if we still wanted to go to Kilauea Days that we’d better get going so I threw some clothes on and we were out the door. It was winding down when we got there so we hit the sarong shop then over to Cake which I know Kassie would love and we hit the sale section and Auntie just kept handing me things to try on. None of the stuff I picked looked good but two of the ones she picked and one that had been left in the dressing room looked good so I got three new dresses. Perhaps I’ll wear the Velvet one for the reunion. Not sure yet. We headed home and I did a fashion show for Grandma then Auntie found an emerald dress she’d given Grandma but she never wore it so she gave it to me and it feels a bit 50s-ish and is cute. I read through my Kauai book trying to figure out what to do the next day and we all talked and laughed and Auntie did fashion shows too and we started winding down. I think Grandma and I went to sleep around 11:30.

Friday 5/16, I woke up at 6:40 and couldn’t fall asleep so I read until about 7:30 then got up, blargged for a little bit then woke up Auntie for our walk but she was too tired. I got ready and set out but didn’t see Eric when I got down there so I kept walking and came to the next beach and they weren’t there either. I was wading almost up to my crotch to get around some rocks that were taking up the shore but it felt really nice. Next I got to more rocks but the ocean floor wasn’t so nice there and I backtracked and sat on a rock for a long time not knowing whether it was worth it to try and make it over because he might not even be there. Finally I decided I would just try and started my balancing act on all the rocks (sans slippers of course) and made it over to the sand. I kept walking and finally came to the campground and they were the first ones and the only reason I knew it was Eric was by the tattoos on his legs. He’s gained a little weight since the last time I saw him and he came down and gave me a big hug but I felt gross and all sweaty from my extensive trek. I walked up and said hi to Ronny and got a hug and we chatted for a few minutes but Eric told me they had to start packing up to get going then his gf called and when he got off he was like “We gotta go, I’m in trouble” so I said bye and got another hug, he said he’d call me later and I was on my way back. I took the road to bypass the tricky part then got back on the beach and there were crabs everywhere but luckily none bothered me. Back at Auntie’s I had some granola and updated this until about 10. It had already been a pretty productive day up until this point. Auntie made us blueberry smoothies and I got some clothes on and told them about my walk. Auntie and I ran around the grounds finding gardenia and plumeria for the house and surprised Grandma with them. I think I read and got ready for a while then it was time for Auntie and I to go so she fixed Grandma some lunch and I sat with her and talked and got her a serrated knife and we were out the door by 1:30. We talked all the way to her chiropractors and he’s this brilliant clock maker, like the shit I studied in Ancient Astronomy. I sat by the fruit trees and read and worked on my tan and tried to get the cat to come over to me. Soon we were on our way taking the scenic route to the south / west side. We got to Hanapepe and walked around but pretty much everything was closed except one little shop where I got some things so we decided to come back later and went to Mana Beach (prounounced muh-nah) and laid out and played in the water. The current was really strong so we didn’t go in too far but it felt like bath water and the sun was low in the sky and it was absolutely beautiful. A little before six we packed up, showered, got changed using our sarongs and headed back into Hanapepe. The art walk was in full swing and we stopped to say hi to Auntie’s friend first, Mark J*ffers, and he was very nice and she said she made out with him 25 years ago. Next we went to Time / Space or something and there were three pieces I would have killed for though the girl one in the front window was my favorite. Auntie got a call from Devaki whose bf’s friend’s son is coming into town and is 25 and they thought we could hang out. Sounds good to me! We headed out into the road and started going through all the little galleries and went to see a mural on the post office at the request of the artist and bought some treats as well. We hit the fish taco stand but luckily they had chicken as well with homemade tortillas and they were really good. We did a few more galleries and I might go back to get a necklace I liked if I’m down that way then we took off. It took us an hour and 15 minutes to get back which blows my mind. We stopped at the store for some things then home to Grandma. We watched Frasier and I uploaded some pictures then Golden Girls then some reading then to bed.

Thursday 5/15, I woke up right at 8 and started getting ready and put some aloe on my shoulders and right as I was heading out the door Eric One called and started giving me directions to the beach they were at and I interrupted him and told him I was heading down into Hanalei and going to Pine Trees so he told me to call him later but I had no intention. I went down to the organic health food store but they didn’t open until 9 so I sat in my car and called Mom and told her I’d made it then headed in for my smoothie and told the girl to surprise me. It was the Hawaiian sunrise one then I headed to PT and the parking lot was totally full and it was like 9:10 and as soon as I got to the edge of the beach I knew why. The waves were enormous like I’ve never seen there before and ALL the surfers were out. Hot surfers. Hot hot surfers. I was like a kid in a candy store. I started walking and Kay-See called me and I told her all about the drama so far and she filled me in on some things and she was glad I’m having a good time. I walked a bit further then back then I sat on the sand and watched for a long time and it was wonderful. The waves were huge. It was great and I was really pissed I forgot my camera in my other bag. On my way back to the car I called Eric and left him a message that I was leaving but that at Hanalei Bay there were crazy waves and surfers out if he wanted to see something cool. I headed back to Auntie’s and both her and Grandma were up eating breakfast and filled me in on the morning’s events then I had a little Anahola granola with soy milk and Auntie cut up another papaya and I decided to try it with lime juice this time and it was really good. Auntie and I made the bed then she got ready and I updated this and she took off for her appointments. Mid-way through blogging Eric One called and told me to come hang out because he was in Princeville but I told him I was good and he asked if we’re just not going to see each other and I told him my stance and that my feelings had been hurt and that I’m not interested in hanging out with someone who’s going to be bitchy to me. He said she wasn’t even there with them and that he’d slept on the porch last night. Oooh! She was being lippy apparently. Then he said something about friends and that he’s known me longer than he’s known her so that made me feel better. He still wanted me to come down and I was going to but then someone said they were leaving so he said he’d call me after they got back from fishing. I finished blogging then got my stuff and headed back down to Hanalei Bay for some more sunning, but not before Auntie could attack my shoulders with spf50. I passed Pine Trees and parked in the next lot because there were a lot less people in that one, only like 5. I laid out my blanket and started soaking up the sun. I texted Kalei but didn’t hear back and read one of the mags gifted by Susan. The surf was still insane and I just sat there looking at it with my jaw in the sand. Eventually I walked out to the water but only got about knee deep because the currents were crazy strong and I wasn’t trying to get pulled out no matter how hot those lifeguards are. Side note: one of them was doing yoga on the lawn when I went back to my car to grab my phone and it was so hot. I laid out some more but eventually packed up my stuff because I didn’t want to fry and headed back up stopping at Foodland for a sandwich and apple on my way. I sat outside eating and read my book then tried Kassie because she’s in SF before she flies out to Vegas for a bachelorette party then Dad called so we talked for a while and I filled him in on the Eric drama then I tried Sos then I rested my eyes while I swung in the porch swing. I called Susan and filled her in on everything then Auntie got home and we decided to go down into Hanalei for our walk despite the slight drizzle. Luckily when we got down there it was fine and just a bit misty from all the waves crashing. It was absolutely beautiful and again I forgot my camera and I was pissed at myself. We walked down the beach to the pier and back talking and ran into one of Auntie’s friends from S. Africa who’s living in India right now in some international community of 2,000 people and it’s like the craziest thing I’ve ever heard. Eric called and said they were back and I told him I’d call him when I was home. We were down there for about 2 hours and headed back up after saying hi to Devaki and her Peruvian bf and Skippy the Corgi. We stopped at the store to pick up some things and AL almost ran some guy over with her cart and I told her that’s the way to get a man. At home we got the feta and spinach pizza in the oven and I took a quick shower. Auntie made a really good salad with white balsamic and she put extra cheese on the pizza. For dessert she made this wonderful warm organic blueberry with local Kauai ice cream dish and it was soo good. I called Eric when I was done and he told me they had just gotten back and in trouble by Princeville security for fishing in one of the ponds on the golf course. He told me they were going to be camping at ‘Anini so I said I would come down in the morning and asked if 8 was too early and he said no and that he’d be up by 6 fishing. When we hung up Auntie asked me what the story was so I told her and she said she would walk with me in the morning and we watched Frasier. Next was Golden Girls and I told them the trivia Eric had shared with me. I uploaded some pictures to myspace, read a little then turned in for bed. It was about 10:30.

Wednesday 5/14, I woke up at like 6am but started reading and managed to fall back asleep until 8 then got up, had a little breakfast, put on some lounge-y clothes and headed down to the beach Auntie had told me about. I called Dad on the way to tell him I’d made it and he was really cute. I made it down but it was a bit scary because of all the trees and rustling leaves noises. I walked for a while in the water and in the little river that was colder than the ocean and took a few pictures and eventually headed back up. It was a long way and I was so tired and sweaty I looked like I’d just done my workout video. And it was only 9:30. It was going to be a scorcher. When I got back I had a message from Dad since we’d been cut off telling me 30spf minimum! Grandma and Auntie were up and having some breakfast and Auntie cut up a papaya so I had half and it was really good. I got my computer out and checked my messages and just relaxed for a long time especially outside because her lanai in the front is so wonderful. Auntie and I did some things around the house then took off to wash her car at Mercedes’ then headed down to the beach for a swim. We stopped at the old Kai Kane to meet a boy she thinks is foxy, Erasmo. He has a gf but AL says he’s very nice and that we should hang while I’m visiting. He was indeed nice and we exchanged numbers so we’ll see if we end up meeting up or not. We went to Darcy’s and she was really nice and told us to have fun. We walked onto the hot sand, stripped down to our suits and walked the beach for a while then turned around, walked back and eventually went for a swim but the water was a bit cold so it took a while for me to get all the way in. We swam and talked then laid on our sarongs and talked story. I didn’t want to burn so we didn’t stay out too long and headed back up and I was introduced to Joe and we rinsed off in the outdoor shower and were on our way back up to the condo for some lunch. We stopped at Mercedes’ gallery and her stuff is beautiful and she seems really nice. Grandma and I shared a chicken breast and had some potato salad, potato chips and a tasty spinach salad with nuts and oranges and cranberries. After lunch AL had some meetings and errands so I stayed put and tried calling Kalei but he didn’t answer and his mailbox was full so I settled onto Auntie’s couch in her room and read for a long time. I eventually went back outside and played on my computer then Grandma was up so we went for a little walk then back where I did some more reading and computering. I called Eric and left a message and figured he was busy until 8 then called Eric One and left a message then a neighbor came over with her two adorable Chihuahuas and I talked to her for a few minutes and she said hi to Grandma then Eric called me back and we talked for a really long time and he’s just so cute. Eric One beeped in but I ignored it but called him back after I was done and left a message. I hung with Grandma then he called back and I told him I would call him in a few hours to hang out. I fixed dinner for Grandma and I and it was really nice and she told me all about Switzerland and the Swiss military men she met when she was there when she was 20 and how they exchanged medals and that she kept his for a long time. I told her about ANTM and we tried to find it on the tv guide and they totally DON’T have it here. The entire network. Doesn’t exist. I was upset. I decided to get ready to go to Eric’s instead and called him and I heard something right after he answered and he was laughing then I heard my name and I asked him if I heard correct and he said yes and that I didn’t want to know and I asked if it was Nicole and he said yes and that everyone’s just drunk so I was like “Nevermind, I’m good” and he was like no, I want to hang out but I was over it and he apologized and I was like yeah, it’s ok, then he told me they were going to the beach in the morning and that he would call me but I knew I wasn’t going to want to get together because clearly I’m a laughingstock. I got into my pjs and got ready for bed and crawled in with Grandma and watched Will and Grace and before I knew it she was asleep. AL came home and we watched Frasier and I read but fell asleep at like 10. I was tired.

Tuesday 5/13, I finished packing in the morning and loaded everything into my car and headed to work. I left at 1 and headed to MI where Mom picked me up at Grandma’s and took me to the airport. We talked about Eric pretty much the whole way. I was still pissed my seat was so far back in the plane and they wouldn’t let me change it but when I did curb side check in the guy gave me an aisle exit row seat, so, score! I waited a while at the gate because I was fairly early and laughed at the guy looking at Penthouse right in front of me and even the four foot long centerfold. I texted Eric and he called him the mile high masturbator. The middle seat next to me was never filled so I really lucked out. I snacked for much of the flight and read quite a bit and even had a semi-nap and we got into Lihue 50 minutes early so it went much faster than I expected. When I checked my phone I had like five messages which made me feel absurdly popular. I called Chrystol back first to give her my address and tell her where I was and tell her a little about my weekend with Eric. Then I called Eric redhead Eric and told him I’d just landed and that I was going to head to Auntie’s and would catch up with him the next day but was glad he’d extended an invitation. I started peeling clothes off because it was really humid but I love the humidity so I felt right at home. My bag finally came off and then I missed the shuttle so had to stand around and wait another 10 minutes and called AL to tell her where I was. Finally got my car and was on my way. I arrived at like 8:30 or so and Grandma almost started crying when I came in. It was really sweet. Auntie showed me all around her new place and it’s pretty fabulous and feels like her old place, but different. We all gathered in Grandma’s room and watched Frasier and Golden Girls and I forgot that both are really hilarious shows. I was really tired because it was like 2am my time so I finally went to sleep.
